BACKSEAT DRIVERS VOLUME 53
NASCAR announced it will be making changes to the Bud Shootout 2009, including those who qualify for it. How would you restructure it?
Backseat Drivers Volume 53 Sheree: Man, this is a great question. I'm not really sure what I would change for the Bud Shootout, but I do have a few ideas I'll run by everyone. First, I think it should only be past winners, and I feel qualifying for the shootout should be reconstructed. Another idea is that the driver who won from the year before should be the driver that sits on the pole for the Shootout. It's almost like winning gives you the upper hand for the next year. The third idea I had floating around in this freaky mind of mine is, maybe the driver order of the end of the race is how they should start the following year. There should be some changes made; I'm.just not sure how many there should be! NASCAR fans don't like a lot of change in their sport and over many years it has changed into something that has caused a lot of fans to loose interest. To get them back, let's get back to old school racing and let the best driver win! Brianna: I love it just way it is. I know this is a short answer, but come on. Remember if it's not broken don't fix it. Click HERE

Arianne: Good question. I am not sure that I would change anything to the structure of the Bud Shootout ...I'd get rid of the entire event. I know this probably won't be the most popular response. I have never been a fan of Speedweeks. It would be nice to just run the 500. Taking away the Shootout could be a move in the right direction towards shortening the current schedule. Race teams and drivers have been talking about a shorter schedule for years and now would be a great time to start doing so. Let's save some fuel, tires, and family time. A shorter schedule could move NASCAR closer to the NFL's success. Give race fans less races to watch and they'll be glued to the television every Sunday.
Kimmie: I've never been a big fan of the Shootout so I really don't care if it changes. In my view, non-points events are a waste in such a money dependent sport.
