Clint Bowyer visits Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia in advance of the Sept. 19-21, 2008 “Chase” race weekend at Dover International Speedway
August 20, 2008
Clint Bowyer’s diverse racing background came in handy on Tuesday night when he jumped behind the wheel of the Phillie Phanatic’s ATV and sped across the field at Citizens Bank Park during the fifth inning of the Philadelphia Phillies vs. Washington Nationals baseball game. And while the playful skit brought a loud cheer from the 44,143 sellout crowd, Bowyer is all business with just three races to go until the "Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup" begins.
“There’s a lot of pressure,” said Bowyer, who currently stands tied for 13th place, just 26 points out of the final cutoff spot. “It’s coming down on everybody. Team members, crew chiefs, drivers. Lot of pressure. We just have to go out and run the hardest we can and drive the wheels off of it and make good calls. We’ll study hard, focus hard and we’ll make things happen.”
Beyond the fact that he has just three races to gain a spot in NASCAR’s 10-race championship playoff, Bowyer also has his eyes set on tackling one of the most challenging races in the Chase – the “Camping World RV 400 presented by AAA” at the Monster Mile on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008.
“Dover’s always been a good track for me and I love racing there,” said Bowyer. “It’s a big Bristol, and as a race car driver you can make the difference in the race car. If the car’s not perfect, then you can make it up a bit. While it’s still a team effort, it’s a lot of fun to be able to curl up on the wheel and make things happen every now and then.”
With three grueling weeks left in the “Race to the Chase,” all eyes will be on Bowyer’s No. 07 Jack Daniel’s Chevrolet to see if he can regain his 2007 stride that boosted him to a third place finish in the final point standings.
NASCAR returns to Dover International Speedway this September for three days of championship-fueled action including the Sept. 21, 2008 “Camping World RV 400 presented by AAA” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, Sept. 20, 2008 “RoadLoans.com 200” NASCAR Nationwide Series race, and the Sept. 19, 2008 “Sunoco 150” NASCAR Camping World Series race.
