Motorsports ’08 Had It All

No one would dispute the fact that Len Sammons and the staff at AARN know how to write about motorsports.  Motorsports ’08 sponsored by VP Fuels proved they know how to showcase it as well.

Held at the Atlantic City (NJ) Convention Center, it was three days packed with cars, merchandise, and racing stars of all levels.  NASCAR drivers like Ken Schrader, Kenny Wallace, and Jersey Shore local Martin Truex, Jr. had fans lined up for hours just to get a signature.  Sprint car legend Doug Wolfgang signed his book Lone Wolf at the always popular Coastal 181 books booth.  Even shock jock Bubba the Love Sponge was available for his fans.

However, the show is not just about meeting your idols.  For many, it is an opportunity to get fitted for a new seat or find the latest in mechanical technology.  Others come to purchase die casts and clothing.  Many relive the past with the many track reunions like now-defunct Flemington Speedway.

While many exhibitors are there hocking their wares, others, like GG Motorsports/Girls Garage and Dover International Speedway, look to build their influence by interacting with race fans face-to-face.  People are on hand to discuss how to break into racing by joining organizations like the South Jersey Quarter Midget Association.

AARN also held seminars for racers, journalists and track personnel.  Teams learned about crate engines and there were frank discussions about the difficulties of local track racing.  Many came away with a great deal of useful information on these and many more subjects.

If you have never been, Motorsports is a destination to be put on your “to do list”.  It is held every January amid the bright casino lights in Atlantic City.  Check www.aarn.com for information on next year’s show and start your engine before the season begins.
